Great Western Hwy Safety Upgrade (Section D)
When completed, the safety upgrade will improve traffic flow and road user safety along the Great Western Highway at Blackheath. The safety upgrade involves utilities adjustment, asphalting works, road widening, retaining wall installation, landscaping and installation of road fixtures such as signs, islands and guardrails.
Align-A-Cut have been engaged to assist with trimming the edge of the road, large diameter drilling in pits for new pipes, and cutting trenches through the road for drainage. Some of the works were completed at night due to the high traffic load of the Great Western Highway – it being the only road over the Blue Mountains. The teams on the project were faced with extreme weather conditions – howling winds, temperatures on or below 0 degrees, and even snow!
